It’s time for another Yes Mingler in St. Augustine! We’re partnering with City Bistro Tea House & Coffee Company for fantastic beer, wine, coffee and yummy snacks to make happy hour even happier!
What’s a Yes Mingler?
A group of people with a “yes, and …” mindset meet for a mini adventure to expand their professional, social or even romantic networks.
* Is this a networking event? Yes.
* Is this a party? Yes.
* Is this an improv event since The Adventure Project is the home of improv in St. Augustine? Yes-ish. We use improv activities to get people moving around the room mingling with each other.
How is this different than a regular networking event, a regular party or a regular improv gathering?
A Yes Mingler has these agreements:
1. Minglers turn over their phones to The Adventure Project’s Amy Angelilli upon arrival. At a Yes Mingler, minglers interact in real life, in real time, with real people. (You may take photos with a camera that is not attached to a phone, or, you may ask Amy to take photos for you.)
2. Minglers attempt to “touch” every other mingler meaning all minglers cross pollinate by the end of the evening. (Yes, there will be facilitated activities to make mingling a breeze.)
3. Minglers come to the event with improv’s signature “yes, and …” mindset ready to be fully present, engage, connect and make each other look brilliant no matter how silly the activities may be!
Not sure if this event is for you? Ask yourself …
“Am I looking for new friends, a new hobby, a new job, a new way of interacting, a new experience, a new adventure, new adventure buddies, new fun, new games, a new way to do happy hour, a new way of being in the world?” If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, you want to be at Yes Mingler 3!
Where will improv take YOU?!
That’s the question we explore with Limelight Theatre‘s new improv house team directed by The Adventure Project! Join the adventure and be a part of creating a show where no one – not even the players – know where we’ll end up!
Stick around after the show for the Improv Playground where the players lead improv games for the community!
Throughout this 8-week course, students will explore the basic concepts of improvisation in a warm, safe and supportive environment. The class is designed to build self-confidence and explore creativity using the fundamentals of improvisation. Designed for both actors and non-actors, it will expose students to:
- Being – and reacting — in the moment.
- Accepting and building on gifts from other classmates.
- Embracing – and using — failure.
- Co-creating with others (listening, communicating, giving & taking focus).
- Thriving in an unscripted environment.
Students leaving this course will have a working understanding of the basic fundamentals of improvisational theater as well as an increased appreciation, and comfort, with being on stage without a script.
Level 2 Improv expands on fundamentals learned in Level 1 Improv in the same warm, safe and supportive environment. Continue building self-confidence and exploring creativity while engaging in a higher level of the “yes, and…” concept. Play short form improv games while also learning the foundations for solid scene work in a co-creative space that highlights reacting in the moment, giving and taking focus, active listening and failing with grace in an unscripted environment – on stage and off. Class culminates in a student showcase.
CLASS: Level 3 – Characters, Emotions & Relationships – Oh My!
(Prerequisite: Levels 1 & 2)
This level is currently in session.
Level 3 Improv takes the “yes, and…” concept and directs it to building strong characters, connecting through authentic relationships and developing emotions that heighten scenes. Students will play short form improv games, continue developing scene work and begin sticking their toes into long form improv waters. Class culminates in a student showcase.
CLASS: Level 4 – Scenework Foundations
(Prerequisite: Levels 1, 2 & 3)
Check back to see when this level will be offered again.
After learning the improv language, how to create characters, and, how to build relationships with that language and those characters, what will students do next? Create great scenes of course! Students will lay a solid foundation for scenework by learning to initiate scenes with purpose, recognize games and patterns, and heighten the action. Class culminates in a student showcase.
Now that students know how to create solid scenes, it’s time to put those scenes together. Students will learn how to keep the momentum of solid scenework alive by practicing strong initiations, walk ons/offs, edits, callbacks and other tools to keep scenes and characters moving forward – based on only one suggestion. Class culminates in a graduation show.
The Adventure Project’s improv training center is comprised of five levels of improv instruction.
An unscripted romantic comedy, 3 Blind Dates follows 3 single ladies through a round of speed dating and the dates that occur as a result. The twist? The audience selects which speed dater goes on a date with each of the ladies!
3 Blind Dates has appeared in the 2015 Colorado Improv Festival and the 2015 Boulder International Fringe Festival. The show won “Best Improv Form” in the 2015 Colorado Improv Awards. Its Florida debut was on Valentine’s Day 2016 to a standing room only audience in Jacksonville. Since then it has appeared to full houses in St. Augustine. Created and directed by Amy Angelilli, 3 Blind Dates is a production of The Adventure Project and Mad Cowford Improv Comedy.
It’s All About Amy tells the unscripted story of Amy’s life beginning with her childhood in Philadelphia. The twist? Audiences are left to figure out what’s fact and what’s fiction in this fictional interpretation of a non-fiction story! And, even more fun is that Amy plays herself while her partner plays every other person in her life!
It’s All About Amy has appeared at the 2017 Omaha Improv Festival, the 2017 Miami Improv Festival, the 2016 Palm Beach Improv Festival, the 2016 Tampa Bay Improv Festival, the 2015 Tampa Improv Festival, Duofest 2015, the 2014 Denver Improv Festival and the 2014 Colorado Improv Festival.
Imagine showing up at your favorite community event and being able to jump into an improv game – or two … or even three! That’s Street Improv! No theatre needed. We play games with each other and the public and spread the joy and magic of improv as we do. Look for us at the following events:
